Some of the expenses you incur while looking for employment may be deductible, regardless of your success. The total expenses are deductible as long as they exceed 2% of adjusted gross income and the prospective new job is in the same field as your present job. Some deductible expenses include printing and postage used on resumes, employment agency fees, long distance phone calls and transportation expenses [§162, Rev. Rul. 75-120, Rev. Rul. 77-16].
